The Good, The Bad, and They Just Plain Annoying

Saw the doctor this morning. Good news, I have a sprained ankle and nothing worse. The bad news, I can't run for at least a week. This is devastating to me. I'm 30 days from race day and being told I need to take the next 7 days off.

If that wasn't bad enough, the doctor wants me to be in a walking boot. I don't see that happening. I'm not going to walk around for people to question "What happened?" Wrapping my foot seems more likely to happen, so I"m trying out the Futuro For Her Ankle Support.

I am also icing my ankle as often as I can, averaging 20-40 minutes every 2 hours.

24 hours into the injury and I am so ready for it to be healed. This next week won't go by fast enough.

The First Race Curse!?!?!

I am one month away from my first 5K!!!! I couldn't be more excited. Time really isn't that important to me as much as running the entire distance has been. So I have been focusing on my distance.

Because the last couple of weeks I have been inconsistent with my distance, I felt that it was time to check in with my abilities and see where I need to focus the next month of training on. I met up with my friend Rhondah to run a 5K distance along a trail in Carmel Beach. The trail consisted of hard packed dirt and some gravel. This was a thrilling idea to me because I spend most of my time on pavement and have been envious of trail runners.

The view was beautiful. Instead of seeing the same 3 floor plans repeated 100+ times, I was able to see water, beach and a variety of homes. Other then attempting to dodge poison oak, the trail was wonderful. (Please note that at the time of writing this, I am unaware if the poison oak got me or not.)

I get to mile marker 2.3 and that's when I heard it, POP!!! The sound followed by intense pain shooting across your ankle and up your shin. I am unsure if the sound was really audible or imaginary but I landed on the side of my foot and my ankle decided to roll out.

Attempting to hold back my tears of fear I limped the last mile back to the car, stretched the best that I could and then drove home to ice my ankle. One month until my first race and I'm struck with my first real running injury.

Today I decided to do my run before 30 Day Shred. Results were great. I was able to run without my legs feeling like jello, and then had enough energy to sail through 30 Day Shred with no problems.

Completed 2 mile loop in 23:06.
Pace 11:33

Family Fitness Fun Festival

Today was my first official fun run.
Distance: 2.25 miles
Time: 24:45. That averages out to 11 miles a minute. Not bad.

Chris and Shannon joined me while we did a run starting at the Commissary up around Army Community Services, down through Doe Park and back up through Army Community Services and back to the Commissary. It felt great having them there cheering me on. I really am blessed to have a supportive family.

13:30

I'm recovering from food poisoning. So today was a slow 2 miler done in 27 minutes. I felt a little dehydrated towards the end and probably should have taken water with me.
